Not true. The crisis was driven by pharmaceutical companies lying about the addictiveness of the opioids when peddling their drugs to doctors. They new full well that there were significant risks of patients becoming addicted, but chose to ignore it for sake of profits. Purdue Pharmaceuticals has multiple lawsuits filed against them right now to litigate that. Whether doctors understood the ramifications or not remains to be seen; but, there are a significant amount of places where corrupt doctors knew full well the issue and prescribed opioids like candy because they were making money too. People who imported the illegal drugs from China are merely a symptom of a problem that was already in place. They are just taking advantage of an easy opportunity to make money off of the addicts.
