Hey Stooge- we're living parallel lives! Worked two summers at Monticello Racetrack doing just that, mucking stalls, watering and grooming, then riding 3-4 hours a day- all for my love of horses and the freedom of riding- I think I have a permanent stench of manure on me still, but can still smell it in the wind- problem here is that I don;t know which direction it's coming from!
