It's always good to have more than one treatment available. It's like psoriasis treatment -- first you try the easiest treatment with fewest side effects, and then if that doesn't work, you keep going with progressively more potentially dangerous treatments. When you find one that seems to work well enough, you stop escalating.

It would make sense to try the easy, cheap Brilacidin-OM rinse that a patient can do AT HOME. Then, if someone starts to develop OM anyway, run them into a clinic to get hooked up to an IV, which costs tremendously more and which is very difficult for a patient who is already very sick.
