The emerging HEMP industry is estimated to be a $1.8 billion dollar industry to start, and it is anyone’s guess just how big this industry will be. Sails, rope, tents, and clothing were commonly made of HEMP fiber prior to World War II, but the industry faded away when Congress deemed anything to do with cannabis was a narcotic. Today, European car makers find that mixing HEMP fiber with fiberglass will make a much stronger and lighter fiberglass body, and Mercedes Benz is even making dash boards with HEMP fiber. Since HEMP fiber is stronger than cotton, and fire resistant, car seats and carpeting are now be studied. Blue jeans were once made of HEMP fiber, and were said to be nearly indestructible. The construction industry claims that plywood made with HEMP fiber is stronger, lighter, and fire resistant. Since a HEMP crop matures in only 120 days, making plywood from HEMP could save countless acres of forest. Cannabiniol can be made from HEMP plants, and this is the primary substance used for medicinal purposes.
