This should scare you. A drug-resistant fungal infection has spontaneously appeared (slightly different genetically) in many places around the world. And, there have been hundreds of cases in the U.S.

Just as with anti-bacterials, anti-fungal drugs do not offer enough profit for the large drugmakers, so they aren't developing them.
It's up to the small companies to develop these drugs. Really disgusting that the large pharmaceutical firms are permitted to charge such high prices and then cut back their R&D.
