I'm Jewish and a very reform Jew at that. In my religion one can question anything and Rabbi's and others constantly debate the meaning of what's in the bible. Most believe that if you take a broad interpretation of the bible, it doesn't disagree with the findings of scientists. Certainly some are not as open to science, so it's a debate. My point is, we're taught to question and challenge what is said in the bible, not to accept some other persons belief in what it means.
I'm far from a biblical scholar, I don't try to be, but I love a good debate and I like to see knowledgeable people disagreeing on the meanings found in the bible. In many ways the bible is rather like our Constitution which our Supreme Court and others are continuously debating.
What I hate about organized religion is that it has been used to create conflicts all over the world, many of which are between sects of the same religion. I cannot imagine a G-d who truly intended that to be it's purpose.
