I surmise it's because McAfee is the 'nameless' face that takes the credit.
While SFOR, and the peeps who built/designed the underpinnings of the IP in use, are just a few guys in New Jersey. If I were looking to undermine the McAfee tech in any way possible, wouldn't 3 guys in New Jersey be a softer target? 3 normal(ish) guys with wives and mortgages and car payments?
It would be no surprise to me that McAfee (and the DOD) would want to take measures to secure the identity of their vendors from such liability.
