The IRS, state police, FBI, etc. will NEVER call you. The police will NEVER call you to tell you that if you don't get a gift card immediately, you will be arrested.
As someconcerns says, how stupid can some people be? ? ? ?
There is one exception: people who sign up for Medicare may get one phone call purportedly from social security. Ask what office they are working out of (it may not be in your city). Then look the phone number up yourself, call, and ask for that person by name. If the same person takes your call, it's for real.
At no other time will a government agency call you, unless you called them requesting a call back.
