Any insurance company should leap at the chance to pay a few thousand for a drug that might save them 20k on hospitalization costs.
Let's say that Brilacidin-OM costs a modest THREE thousand per course of treatment. Let's also further say that only 1/3 of the patients really needs it (that's an artificially low number for the sake of argument) -- so they are paying for 3 patients to take the drug to avoid one hospitalization.
That would mean they're paying $9,000 to avoid paying $18-20,000 for a hospital stay for one patient, and possibly more if that patient has severe complications.
What insurance actuary WOULDN'T look at that as being a good deal for them?
