Student Organizes Pro-Gun Walkout:
'You Can Only Violate a Right, You Can't Take It Away'\

< >

The high school senior who organized a nationwide school walkout in support of the Second Amendment said he is more concerned with protecting the rights of individuals than targeting weapons themselves.

Will Riley, who organized the "Stand for the Second" walkout said people forget that the right to bear arms is, in fact, a right that can't be taken away.

"You can only violate a right, you can't take it away," he said.

According to the organization's website, the walkouts were held on May 3, during which "Students around the country made their voices heard, saying that they support our constitution and oppose gun control."

"It's not about me getting to keep my guns. I don't have any," Riley said. "It's about peoples' rights. I think that's how we need to focus on this."

President Donald Trump spoke Friday at the annual convention of the National Rifle Association (NRA) in Dallas, Texas.

He said the Second Amendment is currently under siege, but as long as he's president, his administration will defend the right to bear arms.

Riley said to Neil Cavuto Saturday that calls to increase the age at which someone can purchase a gun set a "very dangerous precedent."

Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) signed a law that bans the purchase of firearms by anyone under the age of 21 after the Feb. 14 shooting in Parkland.

"If you're someone who is allowed to vote, allowed to serve in the military, I think that you also need to be allowed to own a gun," Riley said.

"I don't think that there needs to be a double standard."

In response to lawmakers calling for an overall ban of assault weapons, Riley questioned if people would be able to protect themselves from a tyrannical government without them.

"I think it's clear that whatever is necessary to protect the people and to protect our liberties, that's what the Second Amendment covers," he said.
