Some believe that if there are any naked shorts out there, they are forced to cover/settle up, but I am not sure it really happens that way. I think it's more of a historical thing- many have run after ticker change, but IMO, it's usually because the company begins releasing real/substantive news after the change- I am strting to agree with many that management is holding off on news until change- so it show's up when people search UTOP/new ticker
