To avoid a government shutdown.
The debt soared under Obama primarily because government was the spender of last resort during the severest financially driven....NOT cyclical.... recession since the Great Depression.
GOP would have driven the debt as high or higher for exactly the same reason we are seeing now. In fact they likely would have cut taxes more deeply than Obama did in the Stimulus.
