Re: wowhappens28 #10327
i dont remember how often earths magnetic field changes polarity but it may be every 1600 years-would have to look it up-when it happens it happens relatively fast-that is one of dozens of events that can cause climate/temperature to change relatively rapidly
the dance between the slowing effect of the atmosphere and gravity means asteroids usually slow to ca 300 mph by the time they hit earth-so you might see it coming-will you shout for joy? and some say there's only a one in a trillion chance of getting hit by a meteor so that's good news if you want to stick around a little longer- pitting in windows, especially those high above the ground, can be caused by meteorites that survive earths atmospheric shield
in other "news'', any space compounds/meteoroids larger than a grain of sand will produce the light trail known as a meteor- depending on shape and material it could hit the ground anywhere from an original size of a marble to a meter in diameter- larger meteoroids usually blow up as an explosion of thousands of tons of tnt- in the atmosphere, including ca 1 or 2 car size objects /year
but if you wanted to go out in a blaze of glory, and act as a test subject, you could determine the landing spot of some of the larger meteors.
