The same thing usually happens to me. The minute after I buy the price goes 15-20% lower, -LOL!
Because of that, one buying strategy I've adopted is to take whatever money I have to buy (e.g. $6k) and divide that in thirds. Instead of using the $6k to buy shares all at one time, I spread out my purchases throughout the day (e.g. $2k in the morning, $2k in mid-day, and $2k at close.
This gives me a better opportunity to get cheaper shares, -in case I miss them the first time, and to average down.
