Feeding birds or any other critters can cause a lot of unexpected problems and this, I think, will be especially true when it comes to mammals. During the mid 1990's I managed to develop a "following" of raccoons and would at times have up to 10 on my patio waiting to be fed cheap Walmart that we would buy for them. We even had these coons named and some would take cookies from my hand. Well, it was cute I guess but a raccoon, especially a number of them, can turn into an agent of destruction.

My neighbors complained, with good reason, so I had to cut out the coon feedings.
