Completely agree with your first paragraph. One could expand greatly the list of 'ludicrous NRA stances' including their success in preserving access to expanded ammo magazines, those f*cking bump-stocks, no restrictions of firearms to those on the terrorist watch list and gun show background check loopholes.

Yeah, getting rid of all of those would guarantee nothing.
But we don't get rid of DUI laws because they don't eliminate 'impaired driving'.

They have verifiably, impressively, reduced such driving compared to the 'before'. THAT'S the 'progress' toward the reduction we need for access to lethal weaponry. 'Thoughts and prayers' just don't cut it
