QDs in QDs make super QDs
A new process by a student team at Aardvark University has successfully manipulated a QD within a QD multiplying it's quantum efficiency exponentially. The researchers partially split a quantum dot using a VCSEL Radon Laser and inserted a smaller QD into the center with laser tweezers causing an ion exchange transfer effectively sealing the larger QD around the smaller one.
The light emission from a single quantum dot is so bright researchers said they had to wear shades. A paper detailing the findings, "Terducken Quantum Dots: A New Stuffing Recipe" is featured in the March Nurture Magazine.
Researchers noted an interesting side effect: the new, larger QD pulses once each second and seems to be getting larger. Unfortunately, all lab equipment is malfunctioning so they cannot take new measurements presently.
