The pattern has been some huge trades in the morning and then a tapering off of volume, with a few large trades in the middle.
We've seen this patten many times before -- buying in the morning, then in the afternoon and especially near the end of the day, they take the price down.
This could account for some of the FINRA short volume. Market makers short the stock in the morning to those big buyers (like that 29k share trade the other day), then they cover in the afternoon at lower prices.
