Just wanted to be clear.
For a material thing, to acquire is to buy (and pay) for something and since they didn't pay a dime for those shares thus my suggestion.
And I don't also mean bad about the bonuses they were given, it's a common practice in corporations.

Wasn't meant to be picky or critical rather wanted to emphasize that they didn't pay for those shares, that's all.
