Appears to be a blanket statement for a special situation that can have multiple variables. I would assume each request would be considered on its individual merits and a conclusion that met the best interests of the company. But that's me.

If there is a certain situation where the only choice between helping the patient and an end of life situation, an opportunity to help could, regardless of the outcome, be a positive, public, good will effort that brings positive attention to the company and it's efforts to bring lifesaving medications to market.

If the outcome saves a life, it could accelerate the approval process of the drug and present more lifesaving opportunities. Management would have many variables to weigh. We have seen drugs approved mid stage human trials and sooner and that is something to consider. If asked also shows a positive perception of their drug candidate(s).
