I guess they are desperate. AlanC has a good point, anyone who is short can get in big margin trouble, and have high carrying costs, for every cent higher this stock is. So for someone with a big short position, it makes sense for them to lose a little money doing a bunch of trades trying to walk the price down.

I hope anyone who is short this stock stays short. It will fuel a gigantic short squeeze when the time comes.
