Article discussing cancer clinical trial exclusions of prospective participants -- a good discussion, especially for those not familiar with how patients are chosen for clinical trials.

It's unfortunate that people who don't fit the criteria for clinical trials, because they are so sick that scientists wouldn't be able to tell if the drug helped them, or if they had side effects from the drug or if it was from progression of the disease -- couldn't be allowed to try the drug, but have their results excluded from the clinical trial results (unless they were miraculously cured).
In fact, such a mechanism could be developed -- the FDA and the big drug companies just don't WANT to do it.
