Not at all, I've done a number of transfers. I simply sell whatever altcoin I own, it is converted to BTC (bitcoin), I then transfer the BTC back to my Coinbase account (takes 15-20 minutes). At Coinbase I have a USD wallet (cash) and can move money to my checking account from there.
This is all a bit different from trading stocks using a brokerage but everyone will get accustomed to it very soon imo.
