Another way to read it is that in all the other OM studies, 75% or more of head and neck cancer patients got OM. In the control group in the Brilacidin-OM study supposedly only 60% of them got it.
So, comparing the approximately 38% of the Bril-OM treated patients who got OM, as opposed to the 75-100% of untreated patients who normally get severe OM, this clinical trial was a huge success.
If you could reduce by FIFTY PERCENT your risk of developing a debilitating condition simply by swishing a mouthwash 3 times a day, wouldn't you insist that your doctor prescribe it?
(in other words, instead of having a 75% chance of getting it, you only had a less than 38% chance).
And remember -- we don't know yet whether or by how much the Bril-OM mouthwash reduced the severity and duration of the OM. That's a secondary endpoint and we don't have that data yet.
