Because it's a new method of manufacturing? What I recall was that after Leo and/or Dr. Menon went to India and met with the Dr. Reddy's people, then in a letter or blog or something, Leo said that the scientists at Dr. Reddy's had figured out a manufacturing process that cut out a bunch of steps, so that it would be faster and cheaper to manufacture. Maybe the process has just now proved itself.

Speculation, I didn't slog through the patent. As far as I'm concerned a good patent attorney is worth every cent of their incredibly expensive fees. If I had to do that kind of meticulous repetitive detail work I would slit my veins.
