Many years ago, when I was a child (chronologically speaking, as I am still referred to as being childish...) the daily newspaper (remember those products of wood pulp?) contained a section that was somewhat pale-green in hue.
It was called "The Green Sheet".
Folded once, rather longer than short, four pages of comedic relief greeted the reader. All the daily syndicated comic strips were there... waiting for eager, hungry eyes (the paper was published and delivered while still hot off the presses, just prior to the evening meal). Fights often ensued over who would get to read the latest escapades of the cartoon characters we had known to love over our short (in stature and appearance on this earth) lives.
I now revisit those youthful years with the same anticipation, although the "Green Sheet" has morphed into a pixel-bearing screen of energized plastic.
The only thing missing is the scent of still-warm newsprint... yet my olfactory nerves tease me with the haunting... lingering whiff of black on green...
The comedic anticipation is rekindled... exciting neurons... revisiting dusty synaptic connections of the past...
as I once more fire up the electronic paper boy of the future and log in to my
new "Green Sheet"...
