I frankly believe it's all about science.
Scientists generally agree that we have overall global warming and that some of the climate change is man made, Republican's disagree.
Scientists tell us that clean energy is one way we can slow global warming, the Republican's put coal miners back in the mine.
Scientists are generally in agreement that their are medicinal benefits that can be derived from properly using cannabis. The Republican Politicians say no.
I read where in Japan anyone can get a gun after they go through education, a serious psychological, and have the concurrence of immediate relatives. Of course this is far more restrictive than here, but with this they had 11 deaths by gunshot while we had something like 12,000. Perhaps the NRA won't go for the idea that people should be trained, and qualified before getting, or keeping a gun, but I believe most of the public would, including a fair number of Republican's.
Certainly the Democrat's are far from perfect, but I do believe that they can believe both in science, and in G-d, and accept the fact that the bible is not to be taken precisely, the earth is more than several thousands of year's old, and that life on earth has evolved as scientists have said.
I for one would have no problem using coal for energy, if it was clean coal that produced nothing more in our atmosphere than using natural gas does, but I would prefer energy from solar, wind, and water power. I would prefer us not using up our national resources when harnessing nature can provide the same energy.
I really don't want to smell someone smoking, be it tobacco or cannabis, but the benefits of cannabis can be found without smoking it, and our sublingual tablet may prove to be what's needed in most cases.
Some of my best friends are Republican's, most of them don't completely deny science, some deny religion, but most do accept Republican positions that man isn't contributing dramatically to climate change. On the other hand, most would agree that we wouldn't be harming the planet if we did eliminate the waste's we're dumping into the planet, they just don't want to spend to do it. Many do oppose cannabis in nearly all forms, but don't really want to look at studies showing where it's effective. If I could summarize it, it would be, don't confuse me with the facts, I'm a Republican.
