I believe that's a misconception, if the patent grant didn't immediately bring in a monetary reward, it's not viewed as material. They certainly still can announce it, but regulations don't force them to.

Other companies I'm invested in have hundreds of approved patents and never announce them. Poster's who're constantly watching for them normally find them shortly after it becomes public.
