Some doctor's pushing a new book, was on CBS news this morning with the premise that lifestyle choices affect Alzheimer's progression and risk.
It really angers me to see things like this. She is cynically pushing this book for her own profit, despite the fact that many of us know people who have lived healthy lives but have been struck down by this awful disease.
Anyone who believes the nonsense in this book will blame the victim for getting the disease. This awful person doesn't mention one of the very large risk factors for getting Alz -- which is, general anesthesia. There have been many cases where someone was fine before a surgery, and emerged from it with dementia, or in the case of people who had mild Alz, waking up with a much worse case.
It is probably because of oxygen deprivation during surgery, but who knows -- it might be the drugs themselves.
Anyway, someone going on national TV to claim that Alz can be avoided by following the Mediterranean diet and exercising 3 times a week -- this is despicable.
