STAR Park has (I think) about 55 acres and an option for 20 more. They have one building now and about 5 tenant companies last I heard
QMC is one of these young companies housed in STAR Park, all who have TSU Industry-University agreements. At some point QMC might outgrow STAR and want their own headquarters, and keeping aspects of R&D at the current labs. I can see new IP nano related startups migrating to STAR to have proximity to QMC. Large corporate partners that have their own R&D centers would most likely not set up a full R&D center at STAR, but they and distant foreign partners could want offices at STAR for initial testing verification and joint development work. Proximity helps.
Pharma companies have farmed out research to startup biotech companies, many who use nanomaterials. My guess is those early research biotechs who have ties to pharma companies would be welcome at STAR.
So QMC being at STAR Park offers advantages to diverse companies that need labs and want to collaborate with QMC in some way. Being onsite would speed things up.
San Marcos is a quiet Texas college town, less expensive than Austin, 30 miles away, or San Antonio, 60 miles yonder. Plenty of room to build and housing. Texas does not have state income tax.
