I bet this was quite a sight!
While Abe Lincoln was a member of the House of Representatives one of his colleagues was 6th president, John Quincy Adams. Adams had eschewed retirement in exchange for a chance to settle some old Washington grudges. Adams could be eccentric and ornery, especially in later life. He liked to skinny-dip in the Potomac and described himself as "an unsocial savage".
