C'mon. If there were unemployment numbers even remotely approaching the 25% levels of unemployment of the Great Depression we would have BEEN in another Great Depression.
Please try and plug any of those 'real unemployment' numbers into the 'real world and show me the Hoovervilles/Obamavilles we didn't see, a stock market that never recovered, an auto industry that didn't collapse and major banks that didn't collapse.
No amount of unemployment benefits/SNAP benefits would have stimulated enough demand for goods and services, as opposed to absolute necessities, to give us any kind of recovery worthy of the name.
