I Iived in Manhattan Beach CA 1970-72.
A town with nothing over 2 stories tall.
Oceanside but no parking for tourists.
The only factory was a old family owned
earthenware factory, one story tall.
With the Santa Anna winds around Xmas the
LA and its surrounding mountains smog cleared out
with no smog on the Manhattan Beach fronts..
You were on the 78 degree beach and seeing snow
topped mountains. Oh Man Beautiful !!
That is when you go "no wonder they-all came here".
(after the water was brought in of course)
I broke up with my sweetheart companion from IN
and the second year I was very close to the water in a
wonderful efficiency with the fog rolling in through my
kitchen window at night. I slept to the sound of the surf.
I smelled that ocean air in the streets and heard the surf
in my sleep for 2 weeks until I woke up one night going
"this isn't real". i didn't smell it again after that.
