What you say is true, but as an investor I believe we psychologically feel better when we're ahead on the day, week, month and finally year.
On the other hand, if a stock we truly believe in is down substantially, it often provides the opportunity to buy more not only bringing down our average price, but also greatly increasing our profit potential when the stock turns around. While I'd love to see new all time high's, I hardly think I could pass up a price below $.20.
