I have seen stocks that have indeed been naked shorted. AMBS springs to mind. (Its current troubles are due to toxic financing and poorly-planned and ambiguous clinical trials -- both of which pitfalls IPIX has avoided.)
Let's leave it at the compromise -- the two involved post their figures once a day, and that's it. The board has been a lot more pleasant since the arguing stopped.
