Dr. B is worth every single share. Your thought works fine in a bubble but when there are other companies offering the same salary plus more shares you won't be able to retain good people.
We paid a lawyer a million shares to defend a simple greenmail shakedown. You don't want to pay a million a year to the guy who is going to carry us over the regulatory finish line? They should give him 1M shares for every billion in realized deal money we get.
