From a respected poster who would like to stay out of food fights by remaining anonymous. This has to do with Petemantx's question about whether Prurisol might put psoriasis into permanent remission. (Remember, the mice in the animal studies were "sacrificed" before the natural end of their lives, so we don't have data as to length of efficacy from those studies.)

Quote:
"Cure" is a word thrown around a lot. Usually comes in two flavors: not clinically evident but pathogenic process still present or pathogenic process gone. P is a nucleoside analog of guanosine and interferes with transcription. Whether in its prodrug or salt form. IPIX has stated it reduces PRINS and IL20, unless you have seen otherwise, it would do this through retardation of transcription. Somewhat nonspecifically but in sufficient quantity to affect disease course. Because of that, the pathogenic process really is still in place thus patients may need to continue using the medication. Clinically, providers may elect to try medication holidays to see how quickly relapse occurs. Unless P has another MOA, it likely will not eradicate the autoimmune pathogenic process

Many thanks to the poster for that interesting analysis/info.
