Chaffetz: 'Absolute Joke' for FBI

The FBI is rejecting a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to turn over files related to its investigation of Hillary Clinton's handling of classified emails.
An FBI official said the man who filed the request, attorney Ty Clevenger, had not "sufficiently demonstrated that the public's interest in disclosure outweighs personal privacy interests of the subject."
“It is incumbent upon the requester to provide documentation regarding the public’s interest in the operations and activities of the government before records can be processed pursuant to the FOIA,” FBI records management section chief David M. Hardy told Clevenger in a letter Monday.
On "America's Newsroom" today, Jason Chaffetz said Hardy or whoever ordered him not to release these documents should be fired.

"The American taxpayer paid for these documents, they are public records, and the public has the right to see them," the former Utah congressman said. "It's an absolute joke."
Chaffetz pointed out that the FBI also isn't giving these documents to Congress, even though he issued a subpoena and there were official congressional inquiries.
He argued that Clinton doesn't have privacy rights in this case - as the bureau claimed - because these are documents are federal records, and the public has the right to see them.
"This is what makes the United States different. We're open, we're transparent, we're self-critical, we do go back and look at these things," Chaffetz said. "Stop hiding the documents."
