I have no doubt there are small, naked shorting positions every day that get covered within three days.
I'm just trying to understand how the following three things can occur:
1. Naked short interest increasing toward infinity.
2. Trading volume not increasing toward infinity.
3. FTDs not increasing toward infinity.
It seems mathematically impossible but none of the people touting the large iceberg-under-the-water naked short theory will explain how this is possible.
