this is the potential egyptian project i was talking about-there have also been considerations of a project to fill the salton sea in california (where as per wikipedia the worlds largest desalination plant is to be built) and nearby basins
negatives re energy cost miss the point-and various energy sources w ever increasing lower costs such as solar could be used-energy is a cost of any project- and...
the sun naturally evaporates almost all the freshwater on earth from the oceans-nothing unusual about that and that process could be used in deserts along w fish farming etc-
the salton sea-formed by an accidental discharge from the colorado river-is much saltier than the ocean and some fish still survive - just saying-the plan would not include the saltiness of the salton sea but salt mining and other methods/natural processes can reduce saltiness.
