Although I think Grant and Sherman were self glorifying to some degree, and maybe to a large degree, I don't think they were quite as bad as Benson Bobrick seems to think. I will give him a chance to prove his point though. I picked up his book in a used bookstore a couple of weeks back and plan to read it sometime this year.

I do think Bobrick is correct in his assessment of Thomas. The little bit that I have learned about Pap over the years doesn't contradict anything that Bobrick has to say in that short video and he was miles ahead of the political generals Lincoln had to tolerate for way too long.
