Nope, never heard of General James Wilkinson. Interesting.
I came across an interesting tidbit when I saw 3 of the first 5 US Presidents died on the 4th of July, John Adams and Jefferson the same day, same year. The tid bit is that Monroe, the 5th US President who also died on the 4th voted AGAINST the constitution.
"Monroe opposed ratification, claiming it gave too much power to the central government. " He apparently supported the constitution after it was passed.
Also, he is the first Republican to support anti slavery, "Monroe supported the founding of colonies in Africa for freed slaves that would eventually form the nation of Liberia, whose capital, Monrovia, is named in his honor."
