It's the challenge to walk into the river and target cast. Takes a certain skill. The fish can be right in front of you, hiding behind a rock. One casts the fly so it floats where the fish sees it and hopefully bites. Lots of different situations. They now have rafts that float the river and the guide steers one into the middle and the fisherman casts out into areas where one might not be able to get wading. Always good to have a guide, the do the work, you fish. Catch and release in Aspen and that's fine. With so many 5 star restaurants, who needs to cook.....
