Made in America Week Ends with a Newly Commissioned Carrier

President Donald Trump presided over the commission of the future USS Gerald Ford naval carrier today at a base in Norfolk, VA, closing out “Made in America Week” for the White House.
The President reiterated his support for the military and touted the new carrier as a tangible deliverable on the promises he made during his campaign to strengthen the U.S. military and promising that more to come. President Trump called the USS Gerald Ford “the future of naval aviation.”
According to the White House website, the $12.9 billion ship features state-of-the-art technologies like electromagnetic catapults and arresting gear, a new island structure, an expanded flight deck that will allow aircraft to be launched faster than ever before, 250 percent more electrical power, two next generation nuclear reactors and 500 fewer crew members.
The commission is an appropriate cap to “Made in America Week” during which the President signed an Executive Order on Assessing and Strengthening the Manufacturing and Defense Industrial Base and Supply Chain Resiliency of the U.S.
In a press conference, White House trade advisor Peter Navarro explained that the order calls for an assessment approach that “synergistically and holistically” addresses national security by looking at both defense issues and manufacturing issues in American in conjunction. Navarro said that looking across the different departments- Department of Defense, Department of the Interior, Department of Energy, etcetera- is a revolutionary approach to national security that has never been done before.
Continuing on the executive order, President Trump told the servicemen present at the commissioning that he is committed to providing them with the necessary resources to keep the United States safe. The USS Gerald Ford will be the largest aircraft carrier in the world.
