As a former employee of Canada Newswire in Toronto I can tell you that a pr company is hired one of 2 ways.
1. to diseminate a press release to announce something
and 2.
To hire a firm like CFN to work on a campaign for a set duration ..to promote or create awareness.or to draw attention to some tech or product etc.
No company has a pr firm on retainer full time unless they have money to burn..
