Re: PennyHeaven #9424
Sounds like this will go to the supreme court so no more pharma companies can be charged with this. I'm not saying that I don't believe pharma has something to do with the opioid epidemic but it's going to be incredibly hard to hold them accountable because they didn't prescribe them to the patients and they didn't force the patients to take them. Opioids are a horrible thing... I've had family members that refuse them now after surgeries because of how hard they were to get off of when they used them before. They rather hurt then go through with possibly getting addicted and then having to go through withdraw. I just don't see how the pharma companies could be held accountable.... they have listed warnings on the labels.. published the negative side effects... it's on the physicians and the patients to determine the need, application, and use of the product.
Fair disclosure I used to work for a pharma company... in fact with opioids... and the protocols and regulation that are invovled are crazy and expensive. I'm not a fan of companies who take advantage of people who need... say an epi-pen... but I understand why the cost are high and it's rightfully so. Without the high cost our available pharmaceuticals would be incredibly limited.
Just seems a lot like ordering a hot coffee and pouring it in your lap then suing the company that grew the coffee beans for how Starbucks brewed the coffee and how you used the coffee. The only difference is that coffee beans don't have warnings with them and pharma products do. Both have addictive properties... If I don't have at least 4 cups of coffee in the morning I get a hell of a migraine. Not the same as opioids but still.
JMO... One thing is for sure Opioids need to go away... there is very limited usefulness to them that other product out there can't provide.
