To some degree, whether great or small I don't know, pesticides have been responsible in the decline in woodpecker numbers. The main problem has been habitat loss.
In the 66 years that I have trod God's green earth I have seen the red cockaded wood pecker only a couple of times.

Maybe we could get a part time job putting up pecker nests. I'm sure that would be as much exercise as riding a bike or kayaking.
