Beautiful birds, did not know they are elusive. My father in the 80's in northcentral Minnesota would have a bag of suet hanging from a tree and they loved it, 2 of them. He also had feders out for the other birds, but when one or both pileated woodpeckers arrived the others fled. The one it you photos looked bigger than my dads.
