All true of what you said from how I understand it. Unfortunately this is why drug companies exist because the body for whatever reason, can't do it's job anymore like produce enough insulin, clear up amyloid plaques in the brain, or in a lot of other cases prevent cell death. In other cases people with conditions from birth may be missing the gene or whatever for the body to actually repair itself.
I think the ultimate goal to any condition is to do something naturally to cure it like more exercise, changing your diet or taking extra vitamins. If you can grab something out of your existing body and plug it in somewhere else to fix something that would be good too as there would be no rejection. Now pulling it out of a donor brings all sorts of complication.
The easier route and by no means easy, is to find an external solution that can trigger the right responses to help the patient.
Could this be a shot in the eye of MANF to fix RP? Maybe.
Could it be a shot in the eye of something else that triggers the body to make just the right amount of MANF to do the same thing. Possibly, but adds even more complexity and unknowns in the equation.
If we think back on Dr. Urano. He actually would love to find something natural and has search years for a cure by any means. The natural path is a tough one which is one reason some of the SeD companies coming into play are interesting.
Your point on Herantis not obligated is also true for even all the Universities that did a licensing option agreement with Amarantus. They all would love to cut out the middleman much the same way anyone that finds a indication where CDNF is a cure would love to cut out Herantis who holds the CoM on that one.
Be great if Herantis and Amarantus team up down the road as it's likely the combination of CDNF & MANF may be the solution to certain indications.
