De-bunking some nonsense posted elsewhere: the claim is being made that endoscopic exam equals taking biopsies because supposedly if a doctor is in there, he's going to go ahead and take a snip.
This is dangerous nonsense.
"First do no harm."
A biopsy -- a "snip" -- from someone who is being treated for inflamed mucosa turns a relatively benign procedure (endoscopic evaluation) into an invasive procedure. Would you endure weeks of retention enemas, and then allow someone to cut the affected tissues, potentially harming you? Do you think the FDA would allow this in trial design?
It's hard enough to get people to comply with the trial protocol. Imagine how awful this daily procedure is. We've already seen one patient who refused the final endoscopy. How many people do you think would agree to have a biopsy done FOR NO REASON?
And they claim that just because they claimed that the press release said this was happening, and then it was proven that the press release DID NOT say this, well, it's just common sense that if they're doing an endoscopy they'd do a biopsy too. What hogwash.
Anyone reading message boards needs to be very, very skeptical of the nonsense some like to post there. So far today there have been two egregriously wrong pseudo-scientific "discussions" -- this one, and fake-Dr.Jerry's post.
